Ottawa has a running problem.
Not the kind where nobody runs. The opposite — the city is packed with people who run alone. Earbuds in, route mapped, no one to push them. They finish their 5K and go home. Repeat.
Run clubs fix that. But not all of them are built the same. If you're looking for a community in Ottawa that actually shows up, week after week, rain or shine, this guide is for you.
What Is a Run Club?
A run club is a group that meets regularly to run together. Simple in theory. But a good one is harder to find than it sounds.
The best run clubs do three things:
- They show up consistently — same day, same spot, no excuses
- They make you feel like you belong there, whether you run a 4-minute kilometre or a 7-minute one
- They exist beyond the run — the community is the product, not just the kilometres
That last point is what separates a run club from a group jog.
The Ottawa Running Scene in 2026
Ottawa has always had a running culture. The Ottawa Marathon draws tens of thousands each May. The Canal path is a staple. There's no shortage of people lacing up.
What's changed in the last few years is the community layer. More run clubs. More group training. More people who want the accountability and the social piece that solo running can't give you.
Here's what you'll find across the city:
Established clubs and events:
- Run Ottawa — the city's organizing body for road races
- OCRC — Ottawa's longest-running club
- Ottawa Triathlon Club — for those going longer
- Strava local segments — informal, competitive, always running
Newer community-driven clubs:
- The 25th Hour — Thursday nights, for those wanting more, community-first
- Hull Sunday Run Day — Sunday mornings, across the river in Hull
The newer wave of clubs tends to be less structured and more community focused. They don't require registration or racing bib history. They just require showing up.
The 25th Hour Run Club — What It Is
The 25th Hour started in March 2024 with three people standing in the dark at Lansdowne.
Now, 80+ show up every Thursday night at 7PM.
The club meets at Sporting Life Lansdowne every Thursday. The run is 5–6km along the Rideau Canal. After the run, there's a 30-minute social hang. No race times required. No pressure to be fast.
What makes it different:
It's consistent. Same spot. Same time. Every week. You always know where to find it.
It's earned. The growth happened through word of mouth and Instagram — no paid ads, no event budget in the early days. People come back because it's worth coming back to.
It's community, and performance. You don't have to be an elite runner to belong here. You do have to want to be around people who take their lives seriously. It's filled with marathoners, Ironman athletes, and people who aspire to unlock their potential.
It's connected. The 25th Hour is partnered with Lululemon Ottawa, Red Bull, and Sporting Life. These aren't random logos on a banner. They're brands that saw something worth backing.
Who It's For
Not everyone.
The 25th Hour is built for people who felt something click when they started running. People who aren't casual about it — not because they're chasing race times, but because they've figured out that movement changes everything else.
If you're a 20-something or 30-something in Ottawa who's been running alone and wondering if there's more to it than solo kilometres — this is for you.
If you're looking for a slow social jog where nobody pushes anybody — there are other clubs for that too. Nothing wrong with it. Just not this one.
PR Night — Ottawa's Biggest Community Race
Once a year, The 25th Hour runs PR Night.
It's a chip-timed 5K. A real race. Prizes. Sponsors. An athlete village. And 100+ runners who showed up to actually race.
In 2025: Lululemon and Red Bull backed it. Chip timing on the course. $1,500+ in prizes. Tickets at $30 — underpriced, intentionally. The goal was to prove the concept.
In 2026: PR Night is August 20. The target is 250–300 runners. Tiered tickets. A full athlete village with sponsor activations. Medals.
If you run 5Ks in Ottawa, put it in the calendar.
IWD 5K — March 2026
In March 2026, The 25th Hour ran a Lululemon co-branded International Women's Day 5K. 75+ women showed up. Community-driven. One of the largest single runs the club has hosted.
It wasn't just an event. It was proof that this community extends further than Thursday nights.
